From April 2016 to April 2024, it has been eight years since the current tenant of the Marina took over the reins of power following Boni Yayi. Two years before the end of his second term, the assessment of Patrice Talon’s tenure is controversial, even if Léandre Wilfried Houngbédji believes that he has made a positive mark on the country.
What can be said about 8 years of governance under President Patrice Talon? The question has been debated since April 4th. While the Beninese opposition believes that Talon’s 8 years of rule have only benefited his clan at the expense of the Beninese people who are being exploited and humiliated, government spokesperson Léandre Wilfried Houngbedji sees things differently.
According to Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, achievements and accomplishments have been made during these 8 years. However, these achievements are not recognized at their true value.
For the government spokesperson, the former cotton magnate harbors great ambitions for his country. Although his work at the helm of the country is not fully recognized, particularly within the opposition, history will remember that he led Benin.
“The President Talon dreams big and he has demonstrated that in 8 years. History will say, in Benin, that there was the TALON era, and it is from that moment that certain things became evident to us. No one is a prophet in their own country. He understands the insults, criticisms, and slander, which is why he doesn’t make it a problem. He knows that what he is doing is difficult because we were used to doing things differently without achieving real results,” the former journalist stated.
