The President of Benin, Patrice Talon, recently promoted 18 customs inspectors to new ranks through a decree issued during the council of ministers on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. This action is in accordance with the provisions of articles 67, 70, 77, 78, and 79 of the law on the special status of Customs officials, demonstrating the government’s commitment to advancement within the customs administration in Benin.
Thus, three first-class customs inspectors were promoted to senior inspector. Seven second-class inspectors were promoted to first-class inspectors. Eight exceptional class controllers were promoted to second-class inspectors.
According to the decree, these promotions entitle the officers to a salary increase in accordance with current legislation. However, it is specified in the decree’s table that these agents will not be entitled to the benefits corresponding to their new ranks from the same dates.
The Minister of Economy and Finance and the Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense are fully responsible for implementing the provisions of this decree.
