Beijing: Opening of a training seminar for sharing experiences with Burkinabè journalists and media executives

Beijing, April 12, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – A training seminar for the benefit of 23 journalists and 20 Burkinabè media executives opened its doors on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Beijing, China, in the presence of representatives of the Africa Links 24. It aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences between Burkinabè and Chinese, particularly in the field of media.

At the opening ceremony, the organizer of the seminar and deputy director of the Center for International Studies and Training, China International Communication Group, Han Liqiang, stated that it will allow his country to share its experience in various sectors with Burkinabè journalists and media executives, especially in the media field.

Mr. Liqiang emphasized that “even though China and Burkina are thousands of kilometers apart, exchanges between the two countries are becoming increasingly important.”

“We have become true friends who can rely on each other and trust each other. Mountains and oceans cannot prevent the two countries from drawing closer to each other, getting to know each other, and engaging in friendly cooperation,” he said.

In his view, “this seminar is a precious opportunity for us to come together here to enhance communication and mutual understanding and deepen friendship.”

The representative of the media executives, Valentin Hervé Sanyan Kambiré, thanked China for organizing the training for Burkinabè public and private media.

Mr. Kambiré, who is also a special adviser to the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, introduced Burkina Faso, located in West Africa, independent since 1960, and led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré since September 30, 2022.

“The new regime, since its inception, has firmly turned towards more structured partnerships with countries that understand our societal model and want to build a fairer and more equitable world with us,” he said.

He mentioned that Burkinabè journalists will enhance their capacities based on the Chinese example in terms of journalistic practice and press practice management, and will establish constructive and citizen-oriented communication in a competitive context.

“This immersion will allow us to discover certain aspects of your rich and enviable culture, but also to strengthen our relationships that we want to be mutually beneficial,” he said.

According to the special adviser, media executives and journalists will also be proud to share with the Chinese “their daily experiences that make other nations around the world envious.”

The spokesman for the journalists, Sébastian Monné, used the opportunity to congratulate the People’s Republic of China for its commitment to the development of Burkina Faso in any area.

He stated that this seminar “represents much more than a simple opportunity to enrich our professional skills in the media field between our two countries.”

It will be, he continued, “to enhance our knowledge in the areas of human resources, economic, and sociocultural aspects of China.”

“We are looking forward to returning to the Country of Honest Men with new ideas, new skills, and perspectives that will bring added value to the Burkinabè media landscape,” Mr. Monné declared.

The seminar will take place from April 10 to 19 for media executives and from April 10 to 23 for journalists. It will feature thematic conferences as well as field visits to Beijing and other locations in the country.

The seminar for media executives and journalists from Burkina Faso is organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and actively led by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
