The city of Praia will host the “Gritu Di Mudjer Cabo Verde” Festival 2024 on Wednesday, the 27th. This festival will take place for the second time in Praia.

According to a statement, Cape Verde first joined this event in 2023 with an event at the Ildo Lobo Palace of Culture. “Cape Verde is once again embracing this cause in 2024 with the replica of the original event titled “Gritu di Mudjer”, with the aim of also proclaiming the Creole language, the mother tongue, while maintaining the same motto of the host event: `My Art, My Cry`,” they explain.

The same source notes that the objective of the event is to celebrate March as Women’s Month, commemorate the Cape Verdean Women’s Day, give voice to all women and girls victims of violence.

The event will take place at Praça Center and will feature the participation of singer Sandra Horta, Nené Lopes (Gota D`Arte), Admilson Mendes (Donu Nha Distinu), Hermem Freire (Bididó), Odair Furtado, Kátia Lopes, Jannette Sanches, artists from different artistic expressions who will “cry out” for women and girls victims of violence.

The Grito de Mulher Festival is an international poetry festival originating in the Dominican Republic that brings together voices from around the world through a chain of socio-cultural and multidisciplinary events together with artists and solidarity institutions, to bring messages of self-esteem, respect, and zero tolerance against violence against women and girls.

“Throughout the month of March 2024, the Grito de Mulher Festival will hold about two hundred events as part of the UN Women Equality ONU Mujeres project, this year under the motto – ‘My art is my cry’ as a way to give voice to all the women who suffer in silence and increase awareness of the different forms of violence that women face,” the same source indicates.

This festival, according to the same source, aims to gather and unite all arts and expressions to achieve a powerful impact from a comprehensive platform of activism. “Men and women, poets, musicians, artists of all kinds are invited to contribute to this cause”.
