Former Big Brother Naija reality show participant, Pere Egbi, has voiced his opinion on the past winners of the popular reality show, suggesting that they did not deserve their prizes. In his view, he insinuated that the winners triumphed due to the emotional voting patterns of Nigerians rather than logical considerations.
Pere went on to express that if the reality show had been in South Africa or America, the outcomes would have been different, implying that the winners wouldn’t have emerged victorious in those countries. Despite participating in the show twice, during the ‘Shine Ya Eye’ season in 2021 and the All Stars edition in 2023, Pere stated that he would decline the opportunity to be on the show again if it were presented to him.
During a recent episode of Celebrity Quickies, Pere shared, “My experience in the Big Brother Naija house was a rollercoaster. I had different encounters with different people, experiences that gave me something. Overall, it was good. But if I was asked to go back in the [BBNaija] House again, I would not. Simply because I feel Nigerians are not ready for reality TV. A bunch of Nigerians who actually vote for these guys in these shows in Nigeria, especially, Big Brother, are just one-track minded.”
Continuing his candid assessment, he added, “I’m being honest, if this was a South African or American show, I don’t think the people who won will win.” Pere’s remarks reflect his disillusionment with the voting process and the perceived biases within the Nigerian audience’s approach to reality television.
By speaking out about his reservations and experiences, Pere has offered an alternative perspective on the popular reality show and the voting patterns of its audience. His comments may spark discussions on the criteria for voting on reality TV shows and the impact of emotions on the outcomes.
