Bassolma Bazié urges Burkinabe to return to traditions and customs to avoid shame

Ouagadougou, March 21, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – State Minister Bassolma Bazié has urged Burkinabe to publicly embrace practices related to traditions and customs to avoid the shame brought about by their rejection.

“Today, we give the impression of not resembling anyone because we have neglected our traditions. We have trampled on them. We have behaved differently,” said the State Minister in charge of the Civil Service, Bassolma Bazié, according to a video released yesterday by his communication service.

According to Mr. Bazié, who spoke on March 16, 2024, during the first promotional day of Ziro fruits, Burkinabe will never know shame, provided they work diligently, are sincere, and respect customs and traditions.

The Minister noted that this is why President Ibrahim Traoré decreed May 15 as a day of tribute to these ancestral values.

“We want to carry out such acts officially because sometimes when we see people returning to traditions, they go as if it were objects of shame. They hide to go there. If it is not at night, they do not go. And yet during the day, everyone gives the impression that these are places you should not go to. However, at night, we all go. That’s precisely why I say we need to stop lying to ourselves,” explained Bassolma Bazié.

According to the Minister, this day was established so that everyone at 8 AM, noon, 2 PM, 3 PM, 4 PM… can bow down at the grave of their grandfather in front of everyone’s eyes.

“If you have an old water pot with which your grandmother cared for you until you became a minister, do not be afraid to remove that water pot at 1 PM, place it, and glorify it,” added Mr. Bazié.

He asked the elders to “prepare” the youth going to the front before their departure so they can return safely and after their return, so they do not break down. According to Bassolma Bazié, communities must be prepared to face the enemy and not rely solely on the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

“Someone should not water their field, cultivate their field, or harvest these products in fear. (…) All of us here, from children to the elderly, everyone should consider themselves as Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP),” he urged.

Furthermore, the State Minister urged communities to have the courage to confront and reprimand anyone who makes deals with the enemy.

“It is up to each family to treat these traitors properly, even in a cultural sense, so that security is restored,” said Bassolma Bazié. Agence d’information du Burkina. ATA/ck. Archive photo.
