Responding to questions about the conclusions of the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the agricultural agreement and the maritime fishing agreement between Morocco and the EU, Mustapha Baitas indicated that Morocco reiterates its position that “the European Union must, through its institutions and its Member States, fully assume its responsibility for the preservation and protection of the partnership with Morocco in the face of provocations and political maneuvers.”
During a press briefing after the Government Council, Mr. Baitas added that the Kingdom has taken note of the conclusions issued on Thursday by the Advocate General of the EU Court of Justice regarding the questions submitted to her in relation to the agricultural agreement and the maritime fishing agreement between Morocco and the EU.
“These conclusions are neither a ruling of the European Court nor a court order, but rather a document summarizing the opinion of the Advocate General on various aspects of these debatable issues,” he explained.
The minister also considered it as a contribution made by the Advocate General at this stage of the procedure in preparation for the forthcoming deliberations among the judges of the Court, pending the pronouncement of the final judgment.
Furthermore, Mr. Baitas emphasized that the Kingdom is not a party to this procedure, clarifying that the European Union, represented by the EU Council, is the party being challenged, supported by the European Commission and several member countries in defense of the agreements with Morocco.
He added that some Moroccan professional associations have also joined this procedure in support of the defense, notably the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development (COMADER) and the Chambers of Maritime Fishing.
