Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem, alongside his teammates, is gearing up for the upcoming rivalry match against the Black Stars of Ghana. This clash between the two West African neighbors is known for being one of the longest-standing rivalries in African football, and they are set to face off in an international friendly game in Marrakech, Morocco on Friday.
Both teams have been training intensively in preparation for the friendly match, with a strong turnout in both camps in Morocco. This game holds a competitive edge, as both sides are eager to come out on top. Notably, the Super Eagles will be without their former coach Jose Peseiro, with whom they parted ways two years ago. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Enyimba coach, Finidi George, to lead the team temporarily for the upcoming matches against Ghana and Mali on March 22 and 26, respectively.
In an interview with NFF TV, Awaziem shared his thoughts on the current training sessions and the team’s readiness for the game under Finidi’s guidance. He mentioned that the players are adapting well to the new coach’s style of play and are focused on the upcoming match against Ghana. As Finidi previously served as an assistant coach, he is already familiar with the team and its dynamics, making the transition smoother for everyone involved.
Awaziem praised Finidi’s performance in overseeing the training sessions in Morocco, expressing optimism about the team’s prospects under the interim manager. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and approaching the game with a sportsmanlike attitude, despite the intense rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. Awaziem highlighted that the ultimate goal is to play good football and secure a victory on the field.
The central defender acknowledged the significance of the historic rivalry between the two nations and assured fans that the Super Eagles are fully prepared and determined to put on a strong performance against Ghana. He reiterated that football is a sport and emphasized that the focus will be on playing the game competitively and achieving a favorable outcome.
Overall, Awaziem’s comments reflect the team’s commitment to success and unity under Finidi’s leadership. With a renewed sense of purpose and determination, the Super Eagles are poised to deliver a memorable performance in the upcoming clash against their long-time rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana.
