The European Marine Board (EMB) is excited to announce the launch of its EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence programme for the 2024/2025 edition. This unique opportunity invites creative individuals and groups to immerse themselves in the world of marine science and contribute to raising awareness about ocean-related issues through art.

The EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence programme aims to foster collaboration between the arts and sciences, in order to inspire new perspectives on the challenges facing our oceans. By bringing together artists and marine experts, the programme seeks to generate innovative approaches to communication and outreach, and to highlight the importance of the ocean to society.

The selected artists will have the opportunity to spend a period of time working alongside marine researchers and experts, gaining insights and inspiration from their work. They will also have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, allowing them to create new pieces of art that reflect their experiences and observations of the marine environment.

The programme is open to artists from all creative disciplines, including but not limited to visual arts, film, photography, music, literature, and performing arts. Both individual artists and groups are encouraged to apply, and collaborative projects between artists and scientists are particularly welcomed.

In addition to the residency itself, selected artists will also have the opportunity to showcase their work at public exhibitions and events, and to engage with diverse audiences to share their perspectives on ocean conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.

The EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence programme is part of EMB’s broader efforts to promote the integration of arts and sciences in addressing societal challenges. By providing a platform for creative expression and dialogue, the programme aims to foster a deeper understanding of the ocean and its importance, and to stimulate innovative thinking about how we can better protect and preserve this vital resource.

Applications for the 2024/2025 edition of the EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence programme are now open, and artists are encouraged to submit their proposals by the deadline. The selected artists will have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the field of marine science and conservation, and to inspire positive change through their art.
