TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola has signed a yearly leasing agreement for a Boeing 747-400F freighter, which will ensure, according to the company, the connection between Luanda and the European hub of Liège (Belgium), with flights operated by TAAG every Friday from the New Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) in Luanda.
The Boeing 747-400F freighter has a cargo capacity of up to 120 tons, specifically for large and oversized items, such as pieces up to 20 meters long that can be loaded quickly onto the aircraft, as informed by the national airline. The company adds that “this freighter will meet the demand indicators and cargo mobilization needs of various clients, including the industrial sector and the oil and gas ecosystem.”
The Luanda – Liège route has a flight duration of 9 hours and is the cargo route with the highest revenue contribution and volume of cargo transported, with 2,712,009 kg recorded in 2023, as stated by TAAG. The company estimates moving around 320 tons of diverse cargo per month, taking advantage of the new airport infrastructure in Luanda.
“The cargo segment is a strategic market niche for TAAG, and in this way, it aims to fulfill its role of promoting the Luanda hub by providing international connections and import/export channels for economic agents and industry support, both for Angola and other countries in the region,” the company states in the press release.
