Angola inaugurated its Consulate-General in Istanbul on July 29, 2023, in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, and the Angolan ambassador to Turkey, José Patrício, with Colense de Sousa being the current Consul-General. The event received extensive media coverage from public communication outlets and positive feedback from analysts and commentators.
We have learned that, due to this situation, all consular actions are being carried out in the consular sector of the Angolan Embassy in Turkey, located in the capital Ankara.
It is certain that five months after its inauguration last December, Colense de Sousa decided to change locations, canceled the previous contract, and rented new facilities in a luxurious neighborhood in Istanbul. And here begins the “Turkish soap opera” made in Angola.
Such actions (sale, purchase, rental, renovation, construction, etc.) require certain legal, administrative, and urban planning procedures outlined in the current Diplomatic Guide in Turkey, which the Angolan consular mission in Istanbul did not comply with.
