The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, arrived in Luanda this morning for a working meeting with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço.

At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the statesman received welcome greetings from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and did not make any statements to the press.

Recently, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Angolan President João Lourenço had a meeting with Félix Tshisekedi on the sidelines of the 37th African Union (AU) Summit. This meeting took place 24 hours after an extraordinary summit on the situation in eastern DRC, with the participation of nine heads of state, including Félix Tshisekedi.

The high-level meeting was convened by the Angolan President in his capacity as AU mediator in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, as part of diplomatic efforts to relaunch the peace process in eastern DRC.

On that occasion, João Lourenço explained that he decided to invite African heads of state and government to this meeting “in an attempt to see if we can put the peace process in the DRC back on track.”

He emphasized that this process was very close to making progress, at least in relation to one of the negative forces operating in the DRC, namely the M23, but unfortunately there was a significant setback.
