End of floods in Multicaixas in the country is only possible with 5,000 more terminals
The Interbank Services Company (EMIS) estimates that in order to end the floods in Multicaixas in the country, it is necessary to install five thousand more ATMs throughout the national territory.
José Matos, President of the Executive Committee of EMIS, reiterated that the 3,600 existing Multicaixas Terminals in the country are insufficient, considering the geographical size and population. The CEO of the company managing the Multicaixas network in Angola noted that, in addition to the limited number of ATMs, there is an asymmetry in the installation and distribution of equipment throughout the country.
In this regard, he mentioned that in each municipality of Luanda there are around 30 to 40 ATMs to meet the demand of residents, while in other municipalities of other provinces, there are only three ATMs for a “considerable number” of customers. To meet the needs, José Matos said that there is also a need for intervention from the National Bank of Angola (BNA), suggesting the annual installation of 200 ATMs through a program that addresses the real needs of each province.
He explained that conditions related to electricity and communications are imperative in the installation process of these services, since the infrastructure that allows the expansion of the network and the central systems are “properly prepared” to accommodate the placement of any amount of ATMs. Regarding the loading of ATMs, the CEO of EMIS recalled that it is not the company’s responsibility to put money in the machines, attributing this task to the banks.
