At least 36 young people in northern Cabinda have completed a one-month training program at Chevron’s Mwanza Technical Center. The program covered a wide range of technical and professional skills, including production, electricity, mechanics, maintenance, instrumentation, operations control system, health, security, and the environment. The participants received their certificates at a ceremony attended by the director-general of Chevron in Angola, Billy Lacobien, and Isabel Vicente, the provincial secretary for Public Administration, Work, and Social Security.

During the ceremony, Billy Lacobien reiterated Chevron’s commitment to supporting the government’s policies to promote job opportunities for young people. He also announced that the trainees would soon have the opportunity to benefit from professional internships at the Malango camp. This is a significant step towards providing practical experience and further developing the skills they acquired during their training.

Isabel Vicente used the opportunity to call for more professional internship opportunities for young people from other institutions. She expressed the desire to establish a protocol with other Polytechnic Schools in the province to create more opportunities for young people with technical and professional qualifications.

In addition to the training program, Chevron’s subsidiary in Angola, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (“CABGOC”), has been actively engaged in social responsibility initiatives in the region. Last year, the company donated two ambulances to the municipal administrations of Cabinda and Cacongo. This contribution aimed to support local healthcare services and emergency response capabilities. Furthermore, they also provided masks and a Basic Life Support training package to Cabinda General Hospital, demonstrating their commitment to the well-being of the local community.

Overall, the training program and social responsibility initiatives reflect Chevron’s dedication to supporting the development and empowerment of the local community in Cabinda. By providing technical and professional skills development opportunities, as well as contributing to essential healthcare services, the company is making a tangible and positive impact in the region.

The completion of the training program marks an important milestone for the 36 young participants, equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit both their personal and professional development. As they move into professional internships and future careers, they will be better prepared to contribute to the growth and prosperity of their communities. The partnership between Chevron and the local government and institutions highlights the potential for collaboration in creating more opportunities for young people in the technical and professional fields.

In conclusion, the training program at Chevron’s Mwanza Technical Center has provided a valuable foundation for the young people of northern Cabinda to pursue successful and fulfilling careers. With continued support and collaboration, there is the potential to create even more opportunities for skills development and employment, ultimately contributing to the growth and prosperity of the region.
