The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola and the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture of the United States analyzed on Monday, the 26th, in Luanda, topics of common interest such as food security, climate change, sustainable production, market access for live animals and genetics from the US, new technologies and biotechnology, and the American program to support the availability of school meals.
The American official Xochitl Torres Small, on her third visit to Luanda, said that the current trip aims to “extend cooperation in the livestock sector.” Torres Small noted that “as we develop our capacities and strengthen our relationship and cooperation, we will also be investing in family agriculture, therefore increasing their productive capacities.”
The American official pointed out that Angola is a priority country in providing this training opportunity and ensured that Washington will provide “school meals to students in Angola.” “This school meals project, most of the food will come from the United States and the other part will be purchased from the local market,” concluded the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture of the United States at a press conference in Luanda.
On his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola acknowledged the “greatness of the Americans in the sector” and talked about Angola’s intentions to cooperate with the US. “In creating a conducive environment for agricultural activity to develop.
I mention here at the beginning that the United States are the largest agricultural producers in the world. There is no one in the world who produces agriculture like the United States. And I also mentioned here, we are very small, but because we are next to a great country, we also dream of being great. They have many fields where we can, let’s say, learn, gain experience, and train ourselves for these agricultural activities,” said António Francisco de Assis.
The Angolan official reiterated that Luanda seeks excellent cooperation with the United States in agriculture.
