The Presidents of Angola, João Lourenço, and Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, met on Monday at the Presidential Palace behind closed doors, with the strengthening of cooperation being the dominant subject.

Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba arrived in Luanda today for a 48-hour working visit. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, the visit by Nangolo Mbumba is part of the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is his first official visit outside of his country since assuming office. Nangolo Mbumba was sworn in last month in Windhoek as the President of Namibia, following the death of President Hage Geingob.

The Minister stated that it was a courtesy visit to the Angolan President, but since it involves the lives of two peoples and two countries, common interests are discussed, particularly the deepening of cooperation relations, which have already been the subject of meetings in Luanda at various levels and will be further discussed in the bi-national commission.

He explained that the bi-national commission meets with the participation of two Heads of State to address all cooperation issues, both regional and international, with plans to schedule the meeting in Angola. He emphasized that cooperation relations with Namibia are among the best and they intend for this trend to continue.

He concluded by thanking the Namibian President for reaffirming that whoever is in charge of Namibia, the historical nature of the relations and their symbolism will always be maintained, as evidenced by today’s visit. According to the work program, President Nangolo Mbumba is scheduled to visit the company Karam Indústria, located in the Viana Industrial Park, later today.

This company is in the manufacturing industry producing copper, aluminum, steel, and PVC materials, with a focus on the production of low and medium voltage electrical cables, which have been exported to Namibia.

It is worth mentioning that the Republics of Angola and Namibia cooperate in the sectors of Defense and Security, Transport, Energy and Water, Health, Oil, Tourism, Fisheries, Agriculture, Finance, Geology and Mining, among others, both bilaterally and within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) framework.
