World 100m hurdles record holder, Oluwatobi Amusan, and Olympics long jump bronze medalist, Ese Brume, are set to kick off their 2024 indoor campaign next month at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston. Joining them at the World Athletics Continental Gold Level tour event is Ruth Usoro, who recently opened her indoor campaign at the Corky Classics in Texas.
Amusan, who will be competing in the 60m hurdles, is making a comeback to the indoor season after a two-year break. The 26-year-old athlete has a personal lifetime best of 7.84 seconds, which she set in 2020, and she will be aiming to break the African record of 7.82 seconds set by Glory Alozie in Madrid in 1999. Having already broken two of Alozie’s records (Africa Championship and African Games), Amusan has her sights set on becoming the second Nigerian high hurdler, after Alozie, to make the podium at the World Indoor Championships in March.
Brume is also returning to the indoor scene after her long jump silver medal win at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in March 2022. Usoro, on the other hand, will be competing for the second time this indoor season after her victory in the triple jump event at the Corky Classics. She will be joining Brume, Quanesha Burks, and Tara Davis-Woodhall from the USA, as well as Laquan Nai from Barbados in the long jump lineup.
The trio of Amusan, Brume, and Usoro are expected to put on a thrilling showcase of athleticism as they look to make their mark in the upcoming indoor events. The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix promises to be an exciting and competitive event as these talented athletes showcase their skills on the world stage.
