The outgoing Golf Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, Wahab Aminu-Sarumi, has received high praises from members of the Golf Section for his contributions to its growth. As he wraps up his tenure with the Captain’s Day Golf tournament tagged WS 2024, former Chairman of the Club, Demola Mumuney, commended Aminu-Sarumi for his dedication and efforts in uplifting the section. Another former Club Chairman and Trustee, Adm. Toye Sode (rtd), along with other sectional leaders, also acknowledged Sarumi’s accomplishments over the past twelve months.

Throughout his tenure, Aminu-Sarumi’s philosophy of “What is worth doing at all, is worth doing well” has been his guiding principle. He attributed his modest achievements to his belief in doing the right thing, even if it may not always be popular. Aminu-Sarumi expressed gratitude to God for his contributions and accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of staying true to his beliefs and values.

Acknowledging the support of his Committee members, Aminu-Sarumi expressed his appreciation for not letting down those who had supported his election. The closing ceremony of his tenure was marked by the announcement of Paul Osu as the winner of the 2024 Captain’s Day golf tournament, with a net score of 69. Ayo Adegboye secured the second position with the same net score, while K. Aderibigbe came in third with a net score of 71, defeating former Captain Ayinde Sanni on countback. Oluwatosin Oni rounded out the top five in the Net category.

In the Gross Category for men, Akeem Lawal claimed victory with a score of 76, followed by Afe Joachim in second place with a score of 77, and Club Champion Tim Ayomike in third place.

The success of the Captain’s Day Golf tournament and the achievements of Aminu-Sarumi during his tenure have highlighted the growth and development of the Golf Section at Ikoyi Club 1938. Members of the section have expressed their appreciation for his efforts and dedication, underscoring the positive impact he has had on the club.
