In an unprecedented show of solidarity, the El Baraka Association in Algeria is actively mobilizing to support the Palestinians in Gaza, who are facing a highly critical humanitarian situation. This time, the charity organization has launched a specific campaign to collect Zakat al-Fitr, a pillar of Islam aimed at purifying Ramadan fasters through a charitable gesture towards the most needy.

Sheikh Ahmed Ibrahimi, president of the El Baraka Association, made a passionate appeal to Algerians, encouraging them to direct their Zakat al-Fitr towards the residents of Gaza.

“Facing this great ordeal experienced by our brothers in Gaza, we say: donate Zakat al-Fitr to save the lives of our brothers in Gaza,” he declared on his official page.

He emphasized the urgency of the situation due to the famine, killings, and forced displacement that the people of Gaza are facing.

The collection campaign initiated by the Association aims to gather the necessary funds to provide concrete assistance to the residents of Gaza. This year, the amount of Zakat al-Fitr has been set at 150 Algerian dinars per person, equivalent to the value of two kilograms of wheat, reflecting a significant portion of the daily diet in Algeria.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken measures to facilitate the effective collection and distribution of Zakat al-Fitr. Indeed, imams across the country have been tasked with closely cooperating with the Zakat committees in mosques to begin collecting from mid-Ramadan. This initiative aims to ensure that Zakat is distributed to beneficiaries one or two days before Eid al-Fitr, in accordance with Islamic precepts.

The ministry reminds that Zakat al-Fitr is a religious duty incumbent upon every Muslim, regardless of age, gender, social status, or wealth. It must be paid by the individual for themselves as well as for those they are responsible for, provided they have surplus beyond their essential needs.

This national mobilization in support of the Palestinians in Gaza demonstrates the spirit of solidarity that animates Algerian society, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan. It also reflects the Algerians’ commitment to humanitarian causes and their willingness to support populations in distress, in this case, the residents of Gaza, through concrete gestures of generosity and sharing.
