Algeria is preparing for a difficult weather day marked by harsh conditions on February 24, 2024, according to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Office. Severe cold, rain, and snowfall are expected in several regions of the country.

Northern regions are anticipating thunderstorms while mountainous areas, located at an altitude of 900 to 1100 meters, will see their landscapes covered with a layer of snow. Winds blowing up to 60 km/h will intensify the cold, with temperatures ranging between 5 and 19 degrees depending on the locations.

In the south, the weather will be variable with scattered rain in the north of the desert areas and oases, while the rest will experience sunny but windy weather, conducive to the formation of sand whirlwinds.

On the eve of this day, the first signs of a winter weekend manifested with a heavy snowfall in the inland highlands, predicting accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. This snowy precipitation will affect several provinces, including Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbès, Saïda, Djelfa, Laghouat, El Bayadh, and Tissemsilt, causing difficulties for traffic and the daily lives of residents.

Weather Alerts in Algeria: vigilance is essential

In response to the meteorological forecasts, increased vigilance is recommended.

Authorities warn of the risks associated with these weather conditions, particularly significant snowfall on reliefs over 1000 meters above sea level and thunderstorms that may be accompanied by hail. Accumulations could locally exceed 50 mm, impacting both the north and certain regions in the south of the country.

Preventive measures are therefore crucial to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of citizens. It is advised to limit travel, stay informed through regular weather bulletins, and follow the recommendations of local authorities.
