The regions of northern Algeria, especially the west and the inner west, will be facing a heat wave starting next Friday, accompanied by a high-pressure atmospheric zone.
According to Houaria Benrekta, communication officer at the National Meteorological Office (ONM), the sky will initially be veiled with low clouds, becoming clear after the clouds dissipate. Thunderstorms could form in the mountainous areas of the west and central regions on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Temperatures will range between 18 and 27 degrees in the central and eastern regions on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching up to 34 degrees in the western regions.
Increase in temperatures starting from Friday
Starting from Friday, temperatures will increase to range between 20 and 30 degrees on the coastal areas and between 34 and 38 degrees in the western and inner western regions, such as Chlef, Mascara, Guelma, Aïn Defla, and Saïda.
Benrekta added that the sky will be relatively veiled in the southern regions, becoming cloudy on Thursday with isolated thunderstorms in the evening. Temperatures will vary from 33 to 37 degrees and will reach 39 degrees in the far south.
