After a few sunny days, as spring began to settle in Algeria, the weather will be less forgiving today. The National Office of Meteorology (ONM) announced the arrival of heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms in several wilayas of the country until Saturday.
According to a special bulletin issued by the same services, abundant rainfall, locally exceeding 80 millimeters, is expected from six o’clock this morning, Friday, and will continue until six o’clock in the evening on Saturday, at least.
Which wilayas are affected by this alert?
Several regions will have rainy weather this weekend. The wilayas of El Oued, Touggourt, El M’ghair, and the north of Ouargla will experience significant thunderstorms. There will be rainfall amounts between 40 and 60 mm, and locally may reach or exceed 80 mm.
Another special alert indicates locally abundant thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts between 20 and 40 millimeters, starting from this morning at nine o’clock until tomorrow at 7:00 pm. These precipitations will affect the wilayas of Oum El Bouaghi, Tébessa, Khenchela, Batna, and Biskra.
What precautions and recommendations should be taken?
In the face of these exceptional weather conditions, residents of the affected wilayas are strongly advised to take necessary precautions. It is recommended to stay at home as much as possible and avoid any unnecessary travel.
Motorists should be extra cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility and the risk of aquaplaning.
