A new meteorological turn is looming this week in Algeria! As we welcome the spring season, precipitation is making a comeback in various regions of the country, accompanied by strong winds. Here is a detailed overview of the weather forecast for Monday, March 25, 2024.
According to the weather bulletin from the National Meteorological Office (ONM), we anticipate a partially veiled to locally cloudy sky over all the northern regions of the country. During the afternoon, cumuliform formations will be observed inland, on the high plateaus, and in the Aurès region, with possible development of thunderstorms that could lead to some rain showers. These precipitations are expected to reach the coastal regions of the Center and the East in the evening.
As for the Saharan regions, the ONM weather bulletin announces a veiled to locally cloudy sky, with possible thunderstorms in the Béchar region, the northern Sahara, and the oases, while a often veiled sky will prevail over the extreme South towards the Hoggar/Tassili and the eastern Sahara. For the rest of our vast South, the forecast for this Monday predicts a generally clear to partially veiled sky.
As for temperatures, the highs will vary today between 20°C and 29°C on the coastal regions, between 19°C and 30°C in the inland regions, and between 24°C and 38°C in the Saharan regions.
Additionally, Météo Algérie has issued a special weather bulletin (BMS), placing several wilayas of the country on orange alert for “strong winds”, including Tindouf, Beni Abbes, Bechar, Naama, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Adrar, Timimoun, In Salah, El Meniaa, Ghardaïa, Ouargla, Touggourt, El Oued, El M’ghair, Ouled Djellal, and Biskra.
This level 2 alert, valid for Monday, March 25, 2024 from 09:00 to 23:00, predicts west to southwest winds blowing at a speed estimated between 60 and 80 km/h, with gusts that can reach, or sometimes exceed, 90/100 km/h. It is therefore important to take the necessary precautions against these potentially dangerous meteorological conditions, especially in case of sandstorms.
