Recently, the air transport sector in Algeria has undergone significant changes. This includes the dismissal of the general director of the company managing airport services and infrastructure in Algiers, as well as the CEO of the national airline.
Additionally, another change was made at Rabah Bitat Airport in Annaba, decided by the Minister of Transport, Mohamed El Habib Zahana.
Zahana suspends the director of Annaba airport
In a new statement posted online on Monday, April 1, 2024, the Ministry of Transport announced that Mohamed El Habib Zahana has decided to suspend the director of Rabah Bitat Airport in Annaba from his position at the head of this airport facility.
According to the statement, the Minister of Transport made this decision during his visit to the Annaba province, after observing the neglect of infrastructure and lack of customer service at the airport.
“The suspension is due to the lack of customer care and negligence observed in the infrastructure,” the ministry statement said.
It is worth noting that Annaba Airport has a terminal that can accommodate up to 700,000 passengers per year. Several airlines operate at this airport, including Air Algérie which offers domestic flights to Algiers, Oran, and Hassi Messaoud. Additionally, the national airline operates flights from Annaba to Paris CDG, Paris Orly, Marseille, and Istanbul.
Other airlines also serve Rabah Bitat Airport, such as ASL Airlines offering flights to France and Tassilli Airlines operating domestic flights to Algiers, El Ouad, and In Amenas.
In addition to the suspension of the airport director in Annaba, other recent appointments in the air transport sector include Mokhtar Said Mediouni being appointed to head the SGSIA at Algiers Airport, and Hamza Benhamouda becoming the new CEO of Air Algérie.
