The 2024 report from the international firm Datareportal indicates that the speed of Internet connection in Algeria (fixed and mobile) has seen a significant increase. In terms of mobile internet connection via cell phones, the speed has doubled.
Firstly, regarding the average speed of fixed internet connection, it went from 11.01 Mbps in January 2023 to 12.32 Mbps in January 2024, showing a modest increase of 1.32 Mbps over the year.
The speed of mobile connection saw a real leap! From an average of 11.01 Mbps in 2023, it climbed to 21.36 Mbps at the beginning of 2024, nearly doubling.
25 million Algerians use social media in 2024. Additionally, the Datareportal report shows a total of 50.65 million mobile phone connections at the beginning of this current year, compared to 48.53 million the previous year, representing an increase of 2.12 million.
Unsurprisingly, more and more Algerians are using social media. The number of users of these social media platforms increased by 1 million in the last 12 months, going from 23.95 million in January 2023 to 24.85 million in January 2024.
Finally, data from the international firm indicates that the internet penetration rate in Algeria reached 72.9% last January. This is a slight increase of 2% compared to the same period in 2023, when it was at 70.9%.
