In his message, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune paid tribute to the history and achievements of Algeria on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the UGTA and the 52nd anniversary of the nationalization of hydrocarbons. According to the text provided by APS, he stated:

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Prayer and peace be upon His messenger,
On the occasion of the celebration of the double anniversary of the creation of the General Union of Algerian Workers (February 24, 1956) and the nationalization of hydrocarbons (February 24, 1971), we pause to remember historical national positions and events that strengthen our will and determination to continue the march towards the establishment of a strong nation-state, rich in history and people, and to preserve our unity in a turbulent world, where we face, in the current stage, the repercussions of regional and international upheavals… and the challenges of hostile intentions towards our country.”

He emphasized the unity and resilience of the Algerian people, especially during the difficult years of the national tragedy, and highlighted the importance of drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of the pioneers of the UGTA and the martyrs, including the martyr Abdelhak Benhamouda.

President Tebboune reaffirms his support for workers, mentioning Algeria’s march towards a new era, free of corruption and injustice, and highlighting measures taken to improve the condition of workers, including “the fight against speculators and provocateurs of shortages who seize opportunities to undermine social stability, especially on the eve of the sacred month of Ramadan.”

He also celebrated the anniversary of the nationalization of hydrocarbons, recalling the national effort to maintain production and emphasizing Algeria’s strategic importance in the global energy market. The president highlighted Algeria’s commitment to the transition to new energies, mentioning the country’s potential in solar energy and the ambition to develop green hydrogen.

In the same statement, we can read:

“We remain convinced that highly qualified human resources in this vital sector will make a difference in the transition to new energies, given that our country has, in addition to the advantages in the energy sources pyramid provided by gas and oil, significant potential in the field of solar energy, a vast electrical grid, and national and international infrastructures for natural gas transportation, as well as an industrial fabric linked, in particular, to the production of ammonia and hydrogen.”

In conclusion, President Tebboune praised the efforts of the energy and mining sector and the significant contribution of the Sonatrach Group to the national economy and beyond, in the context of global energy changes, affirming Algeria’s commitment to the global dynamics related to energy and environmental transition.
