In a significant diplomatic development, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, held bilateral talks at the honor hall of the Tindouf airport.
Indeed, the first step was the inauguration by the two presidents of fixed border crossings between Algeria and Mauritania. Before the inauguration ceremony, a detailed presentation was given on the activities of these border crossings as well as on the construction project of the road linking Tindouf (Algeria) to Zouérat (Mauritania).
Furthermore, this border crossing on the Algerian side is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and is expected to boost economic activity between the two countries, promoting the development of border regions.
The inauguration of these two border posts is part of the visit being made by the President of the Republic to the wilaya of Tindouf, where he is joining his brother, the President of the Republic of Mauritania, in laying the first stone and inaugurating several important and strategic joint projects in this border area.
Launch of a major road project:
In addition, the construction project of the Tindouf – Zouérat road, stretching over 840 kilometers and carried out by Algerian institutions, was officially launched. Approximately 10 Algerian institutions are participating in this crucial project, with an Algerian engineering firm responsible for monitoring its progress.
Once completed, Algeria plans to operate this road in the form of a concession for 10 years, with an implicit renewal.
Facilitation of trade: Free trade zone project:
Furthermore, another major step was the laying of the first stone of the free trade zone project for commercial and industrial exchange between the two countries. This free trade zone will serve as a hub for trade and industry between Algeria and the countries of West Africa, and it is expected that this important project will stimulate the continuously growing trade exchanges between Algeria and Mauritania.
In conclusion, located next to the “Mustapha Ben Boulaid” border crossing, this free trade zone is expected to provide added value and energize trade exchanges between Algeria, Mauritania, and the countries in the region.
