The executive decree concerning the capping of profit margins applied to rice and dried vegetables has just been published. This is included in the 17th issue of the Official Journal dated March 10, 2024.

The capping of profit margins, the text specifies, applies to the packaging and distribution stage, both wholesale and retail. Furthermore, it distinguishes between packaged dried vegetables and rice and those sold in bulk.

Thus, for packaged rice and dried vegetables, the profit margins are set as follows (for a 1 kg or 500 g package):

– At the packaging stage: 5%
– At the wholesale distribution stage: 5%
– At the retail distribution stage: 8%

As for products sold in bulk, the decree caps the margins (for 1 kg) at 5% at the wholesale distribution stage and 8% at the retail distribution stage.

Regarding how these capped profit margins are applied, the text indicates that at the packaging stage, the calculation is based on the cost price; at the wholesale distribution stage, it is based on the purchase cost; and at the retail sale stage, the calculation is based on the purchase price.

Finally, the executive decree warns that “any violation of the provisions of this decree will be identified and sanctioned, in accordance with the current legislative and regulatory provisions.”
