The Central Director of Regulation, Distribution, and Transportation at the Algerian Interprofessional Office of Cereals (OAIC), Imrani Boumediene, revealed that the Office has launched the opening of 310 sales points nationwide to counter speculation and price increases during the holy month of Ramadan.
Imrani explained today in a statement on Channel 1 of the National Radio that the distribution of sales points will be based on the demographic density of each region, in addition to OAIC’s participation in local markets and the Rahma markets organized every year during this period.
He also emphasized the existence of sufficient stock within OAIC, insisting in the same context that the return to these points aims to regulate the market, guarantee price stability, and avoid any negative behavior from traders seeking to increase their profit margins randomly, affecting the purchasing power of citizens.
Regarding the new prices applied by OAIC, Imrani affirmed that they were studied and accessible to all citizens, with reductions of up to 40 dinars per product.
Decrease in rice and dried vegetables prices: good news for consumers
The Algerian Interprofessional Office of Cereals (OAIC) recently announced a decrease in the prices of rice and dried vegetables starting from March 3, 2024. This decision follows the cancellation of the value-added tax (VAT) that was applied to these products, which amounted to 9%.
As Ramadan approaches, a period when households’ purchasing power is particularly scrutinized, this announcement is a breath of fresh air for many Algerians. Indeed, the decrease in the prices of rice and dried vegetables should allow families to save money on their food budget.
This price decrease is part of the government’s efforts to support the purchasing power of citizens. By canceling the VAT on rice and dried vegetables, the authorities hope to alleviate the burden of household food expenses and thus contribute to improving their standard of living.
