The veterinary services of the Oran Agricultural Services Directorate seized significant quantities of donkey meat in a slaughterhouse in Aïn Turk, in the province of Oran.
The discovery was made following an inspection of the establishment, which revealed practices contrary to hygiene and food safety standards.
Striking images published by the Oran Agricultural Services Directorate on Facebook expose the harsh reality of this clandestine slaughterhouse. Donkey carcasses lie on the ground, accompanied by skinned heads and quarters of donkey meat. Blood-stained cutting tables and sharpened knives complete this macabre scene.
Mustapha Zebdi, president of the Association for Consumer Protection and Environmental Guidance (APOCE), confirmed the discovery of a clandestine slaughterhouse in the municipality of Aïn Turk. He stated that the organization is becoming a civil party in the case in order to assert the rights of consumers and fight against this type of fraudulent practices.
It should be noted that the commercialization of donkey meat is prohibited in Algeria for religious and health reasons. The consumption of donkey meat can pose health risks, as it can be contaminated with parasites and diseases.
The case has sparked outrage among citizens on social media, who have called for exemplary sanctions against those responsible for this clandestine slaughterhouse.
