The latest issue of the official journal has just published the decision to lift the immunity of seven parliamentarians, consisting of a member of the Council of the Nation and six deputies of the lower house. These measures are taken following legal proceedings brought against them for various offenses, ranging from non-compliance with urban planning documents to corruption.
After several months of procedures, the constitutional court has finally lifted the parliamentary immunity of these members. This process, initiated by exchanges between the Minister of Justice and the President of the Council of the Nation, followed constitutional provisions.
The first step involved a request to lift the immunity of the member of the Council of the Nation, allowing the judiciary to prosecute him for alleged illegal electoral influence.
The decision also concerns six deputies of the lower house, each facing specific accusations. Among them, S. A. is accused of posting posters in violation of electoral regulations.
N. K. must answer to accusations of non-compliance with urban planning documents, abuse of power, and corruption before the court of Oran. Another case involves accusations of defamation.
Special cases of the parliamentarians concerned were also examined by the constitutional court, such as that of C. K., accused of intentional destruction of property and involved in a brawl. Deputy B. G. is facing accusations of abuse of office, leading to the lifting of his parliamentary immunity.
In detail, the official journal specifies the accusations against Deputy D. O., including the illegal occupation of agricultural land and the construction of residential complexes without authorization.
This decision of the constitutional court marks an important step in the fight against the impunity of parliamentarians and demonstrates the commitment of the judicial system to uphold the law, even at the highest level of the state.
