HADJ 2024 – The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Waqfs announced today (Tuesday, February 27, 2024) that the cost of the pilgrimage to Mecca (hadj) for the 2024 season is 840,000 DA.
This amount of 84 million centimes, as specified in the ministry’s statement, includes the round-trip flight costs (17 million centimes), accommodation, meals, and transportation in the holy sites (67 million centimes).
To compare the cost of the pilgrimage to Mecca in Algeria with that of other countries, it is important to note that 840,000 DA is equal to 5800 € at the official bank rate (1 € = 145 DZD) and 3500 € at the black market rate (1 € = 240 DZD).

Furthermore, the cost of the hadj in this year 2024 has almost returned to its level of 2022 (85 million centimes), after the exceptional reduction to 77 million centimes that the Council of Ministers decided last year (2023).
According to comments posted on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, many Algerians regret that the pilgrimage to Mecca, the fifth pillar of Islam, is so expensive that it is no longer affordable for the average person.
