ALGIERS, March 2, 2024 – The Algerian Interprofessional Office of Cereals (OAIC) announced a decrease in the prices of rice and dried vegetables starting from March 3, 2024.
This measure comes after the government’s decision to cancel the value-added tax (VAT) applied to these goods, which was 9%.
With Ramadan approaching in a few days, where purchasing power is a crucial issue, this is good news for Algerians.
The new prices of legumes for wholesalers, retailers, and end consumers, according to OAIC’s pricing, will be as follows:
New prices for rice, lentils, chickpeas, and beans:
Chickpeas small size:
– Wholesalers: 155 DA
– Retailers: 160 DA
– Consumers: 160 DA
Chickpeas medium size:
– Wholesalers: 255 DA
– Retailers: 260 DA
– Consumers: 260 DA
Chickpeas large size:
– Wholesalers: 355 DA
– Retailers: 360 DA

White rice:

An initiative welcomed by the APOCE organization
The Algerian Organization for the Protection and Guidance of the Consumer and their Environment (APOCE) welcomed, in a post on their Facebook page, the initiative of the OAIC, which they described as a “good decision.” They also urged consumers to check the prices displayed in the sales points and report any discrepancies or abuses.
APOCE is a national, independent, and non-political association that works to defend the rights and interests of Algerian consumers. They carry out awareness, information, counseling, mediation, and field control actions. They have over 300 offices across the country and more than a million members.
