ANP – The Algerian army has increased its production of German armored vehicles Fuchs 2, as part of an agreement that Germany and Algeria concluded in 2014. Our country even plans to launch its export.

Rheinmetall announced, in a recent press release, that one of its international partners (Algeria, Editor’s note) has placed an order for the supply of components of the Fuchs 2 for the production of the wheeled armored vehicle.

The industrial conglomerate indicates that this order is part of a wide-ranging cooperation agreement reached nearly ten years ago (in 2014) between the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and the People’s National Army (ANP).

Initially, Berlin had pledged to assist Algeria in the military sector and in return receive liquefied natural gas (LNG). Although the deliveries never materialized, cooperation in the field of armaments has strengthened. Rheinmetall has built a factory in southern Algeria for the production of Fuchs 2 armored vehicles.

Exporting Fuchs 2 armored vehicles produced in Algeria

Rheinmetall adds that production in Algeria has seen an increase in added value in recent years. In addition, the Algerian army has made investments to ensure high quality machining, welding, and surface treatment.

“This long-standing strategic partnership is entering a promising new phase,” the German conglomerate notes. It even mentions “the potential export of Fuchs 2 vehicles produced in the partner country (Algeria, Editor’s note).”

Furthermore, the components of these armored vehicles come from Rheinmetall’s German facilities and are then assembled in Algeria. The recent order covers a total of 980 Fuchs 2 vehicles, estimated by experts to be worth several hundred million dollars.

According to previous reports, the total business between Rheinmetall and Algeria would amount to 2.7 billion euros, marking one of the group’s largest foreign orders.

Although the production of Fuchs armored vehicles in Algeria is expected to continue until 2028, it is likely that the collaboration will continue. In fact, the Algerian government is considering acquiring the wheeled armored vehicle Boxer, a more modern alternative to the Fuchs.
