The renowned writer and director Mohammed Charchal has announced the resolution of his professional crisis after the intervention of the authorities in response to his demands.

Indeed, the playwright of the famous sitcom “Djemai Family” had declared that he was forced to work as a taxi driver to make ends meet due to his social conditions and the lack of opportunities for theatrical works production.

On Facebook, Charchal revealed that he had resolved his situation “after a generous gesture and a quick response from Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of Culture and Arts,” adding that “the success of my project is part of the success of Algerian theater, and its purpose is to honor my country first and foremost.”

In addition, Charchal expressed his gratitude to the minister and all those who supported him in this ordeal, emphasizing that his success is inseparable from that of Algerian theater and that his primary ambition is to represent his country with dignity.

It is important to note that a previous attempt to resolve the situation in January 2024 had failed.

Before the ministry’s intervention, Charchal had criticized the “failed” cultural policies that, in his opinion, do not protect or valorize success. He also criticized the management of theaters by “incompetent directors” and the absence of a true policy for a conscious and structured theater.

Imposed professional retraining
Perhaps it was this procrastination that led Mohammed Charchal to make a decision that shocked the artistic and cultural community in Algeria by announcing his conversion to a taxi driver, like his father, after exhausting all possible administrative means with the Ministry of Culture and Arts, without receiving any response regarding the regularization of his professional situation.

The Charchal case has sparked a wave of support on social media, where many internet users have condemned the indifference of the authorities and demanded that the Ministry of Culture assume its responsibilities.

The intervention of the Ministry of Culture puts an end to a Kafkaesque situation and allows Mohammed Charchal to focus again on his passion: theater.
