ALGER, March 17, 2024 – The public prosecutor representing the court of Hussein Dey (Algiers court) has requested a sentence of six (6) months in prison, accompanied by a fine of 100,000 DA, against the former president of the RCD, Mohcine Belabbas.
This requisition comes within the framework of the trial against Mohcine Belabbas – who, it should be recalled, has been under judicial control since January 10, 2022 – for: “sheltering a foreigner without authorization”, “employing a foreigner without authorization”, “obtaining documents illegally”.
The foreigner in question is a Moroccan worker who died in 2018 on the construction site of the former president of the RCD’s private villa in Algiers. The gendarmerie investigation that followed the accident showed that the Moroccan worker did not have a legal work permit in Algeria.
Subsequently, on Monday, January 10, 2022, the examining magistrate at the court of Hussein Dey (chamber no. 1) decided, after hearing, to place Mohcine Belabbas under judicial control, with the obligation to sign once a month with the same examining magistrate.
Finally, lawyer Maître Fetta Sadat has indicated that the judicial body has scheduled the case for review on Sunday, March 24, 2024, the date on which the court is expected to render its final verdict. We will keep you informed.
