Alger, March 25, 2024 – After a well-deserved break for spring break, which will run from March 21 to April 7, students will return to school on Sunday, April 7. However, their return to class will be short-lived, as two days later, on Tuesday, April 9, they will once again be on holiday for the Eid El Fitr festival. Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, confirmed that no changes will be made to this school calendar.
This decision aims to ensure the smooth running of the school year and to avoid any delays in the educational program, especially for exam classes. Mr. Belabed emphasized the importance of each day of classes, stating that even two or three additional days can have a significant added value for student learning.
The minister also put an end to rumors and speculation regarding a possible extension of spring break. He stressed that the entire educational community, including teachers, administrative staff, students, and parents, is required to return to work and classes normally after the holidays.
He formally prohibited any work stoppage for the two days following the end of the holidays, just before Eid El Fitr.

Low attendance at support classes during spring break
Yesterday, on the first day of the week dedicated to support classes for middle and high school students during spring break, a timid presence was noticed on the ground.
In Algiers, for example, several establishments were closed. Some inspectors who conducted inspection visits stated that students and teachers were absent.
Compared to the previous term, this time the support classes did not attract many students, especially as it coincides with the Ramadan period, but especially following the categorical refusal to extend the holidays.

The statement from the Minister of National Education aims to clarify the situation and reassure parents and teachers. The date of April 7 is confirmed as the return date to class after the holidays.
