Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, announces a major initiative to ensure access to drinking water in the interior regions of Algeria. The supply of drinking water is crucial for the interior regions. Sea water desalination plants are the proposed solution.

Indeed, the Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, during a visit to the province of El Tarf, announced important news for the supply of drinking water in the interior regions of Algeria. This Sunday evening, he stated that sea water desalination plants will be set up to supply the provinces located within a radius of 150 km.

According to the minister, this strategy aims to accelerate the supply of drinking water and improve its security. He emphasizes that this issue has become a major international challenge over the years.

In order to achieve these ambitious goals, the minister insists on the importance of accelerating work, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. He proposes to adopt a continuous work system in three teams, working eight hours each.

Acceleration of work: A key objective

During his visit to the Koudiat Eddraouche desalination plant site, the minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work. He also highlighted the capacities of the companies in charge of these projects to accelerate the pace of implementation in order to meet contractual deadlines.

The Koudiat Eddraouche plant, which covers an area of 11 hectares, will become one of the largest in the country. With a production capacity of 300,000 m3 per day, it will meet the needs of the inhabitants of the neighboring provinces, particularly El Tarf, Annaba, Skikda, and nine municipalities in the Guelma province.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring sustainable supply of drinking water across the country. It represents a significant step towards better water security for Algeria, thus enhancing its resilience to future challenges.
