On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the sad news of the death of our colleague Zoheir Aberkane shook the journalism community.

Indeed, Zoheir Aberkane is no longer with us. Hospitalized at Mustapha Bacha Hospital in Algiers after suffering a stroke (AVC) last Saturday at the time of breaking the fast, he had to undergo a major operation last Monday.

Zoheir Aberkane, whose real name is Sayeh Chamseddine Mohamed Khatir, leaves behind an impressive journalistic legacy. With over three decades of career, he made his mark in many newspapers.

In the 1980s, he began his career by founding the newspaper “Nouveau Tell” in the wilaya of Blida. Unfortunately, the terrorist threats of the 1990s forced him to abandon this venture.

Zoheir Aberkane distinguished himself during the Hirak with his written and video reports. His commitment was particularly noticeable during Radio M broadcasts, where he accurately described the popular dynamics. In 2020, during the incarceration of journalist Khaled Drareni, he even took over the political press café show.

Always on the side of the oppressed, Zoheir Aberkane openly expressed his solidarity with prisoners of conscience. He even initiated the website Alter news info, dedicated to disseminating information related to these prisoners.

The news of his death has sparked a wave of emotion throughout the country. Many journalist colleagues and public figures have expressed their sadness and paid tribute to this exceptional man.
