New developments in the case of the two bodies discovered in the cargo hold of an airplane belonging to the national airline, Air Algérie. The Court of Appeal in Algiers has reexamined the facts and concluded the innocence of five accused individuals.
According to the Arabic-speaking Ennahar, the Court of Appeal in Algiers has delivered its verdict on the case of two Harraga, found dead on board an Air Algérie plane, who had attempted a clandestine migration operation to Spain.
Justice has delivered its verdict on Thursday, acquitting five accused individuals in this case, including three employees of the Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers, as reported by the same source. Among the individuals involved in this case are also two security agents and a driver, who were charged with involuntary manslaughter, complicity, and failure to assist persons in danger.
It is worth noting that the accused individuals had been sentenced in the first instance to prison terms of up to ten years. However, the justice system reopened the case and acquitted all of these suspects, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to incriminate them.
The incident dates back to January 4, 2022, when two male bodies, aged between 20 and 23, were discovered at 5:00 in the morning in the cargo hold of a plane that had flown from Spain and was parked on the tarmac of Algiers International Airport. The investigation revealed that the two Algerians had planned their infiltration into the airport premises before boarding the plane in question.
Additionally, the final moments experienced by the two men were captured on video and widely circulated online. A friend of the two Harraga alerted security after watching the recording sent by the two travelers. Subsequently, an investigation was launched under the supervision of the prosecutor of the Republic at the Dar El Beida court to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
In March 2022, another minor passenger in Constantine managed to travel clandestinely on another airline’s plane to land in France.
