MILA, February 29, 2024 – The ANBT announced this morning that the Béni Haroun dam in Mila, the largest hydraulic structure in Algeria with a capacity of 960 million m3, is filled to 100%.
After a prolonged period of drought, Algeria experienced a welcome relief thanks to significant rains that marked the month of February. Indeed, the heavy rains recorded recently have allowed the dams of many wilayas of the country to fill up considerably.
The eastern and central regions of the country were particularly favored, with some dams even reaching their maximum level. Thus, the Beni Haroun dam (Mila), the largest in the country, saw a considerable increase in its filling level following the significant rains of this week. It is now full at 100%. This represents 960 million m3 of water.
In addition, the Taksebt dam, which mainly supplies the wilayas of Tizi-Ouzou, Algiers, and Boumerdès, also saw its level increase by 12 million m3, to reach a filling rate of 33%.
