The new interim president of the Audiovisual Regulation Authority (Arav), Amar Bendjedda, was officially installed on Monday, February 26, 2024 by the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laagab. This appointment follows a decision by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as indicated in a statement from the Ministry of Communication.
Amar Bendjedda takes over from Mohammed Louber, who had been president of the Arav since 2020. The decree ending Mohammed Louber’s functions at the head of the former audiovisual regulation authority was published in the latest official journal dated February 7, 2024. At the same time, another decree published in the same issue of the official journal appoints Mohammed Louber as a member of the Council of the Nation, in a presidential capacity.
A new direction for Arav
Furthermore, Amar Bendjedda, who was already a member of the Arav’s management, thus contributes to this audiovisual regulation body. His appointment as interim president marks the beginning of a new chapter for Arav, with new directions and a renewal at its helm.
Amar Bendjedda’s appointment reflects a desire for continuity and stability within Arav. His experience within the regulatory body gives him legitimacy and a deep understanding of the challenges in the audiovisual sector in Algeria.
In conclusion, Amar Bendjedda will have the mission to continue the work initiated by his predecessor and ensure the application of regulations in force in the audiovisual sector. He will also have to face new challenges, particularly related to the evolution of media and the emergence of new broadcasting technologies.
