The weekend is shaping up to be wintry with the arrival of snowfall expected in mountainous areas exceeding 1000 and 1100 meters in several wilayas of the North and the interior of the country. This is announced in a special meteorological bulletin issued by the National Meteorology Office.
For Saturday, the wilayas of Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, the north of Djelfa, Laghouat, El-Bayadh, and Tissemsilt are placed on “Orange” alert from 03:00 to 18:00. In these regions, the snow thickness is estimated between 5 and 10 cm.
Similarly, the wilayas of Tizi-Ouzou, Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, Bejaia, Jijel, Mila, Constantine, Oum El Bouaghi, Souk-Ahras, Batna, Khenchela, and Tebessa are also affected by this “Orange” alert, from Saturday at 15:00 to Sunday at 06:00. In these regions as well, the snow thickness is estimated between 5 and 10 cm.
Rain showers accompanied by hail in 24 wilayas
Furthermore, another special meteorological bulletin issued today, Friday, announces significant precipitation accompanied by hail locally. These showers are expected from midnight until 18:00 tomorrow, Saturday, with locally accumulated amounts exceeding 50 mm.
The wilayas affected by these forecasts are Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Relizane, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tissemsilt, Tiaret, and Saida.
A third special meteorological alert also warns of locally significant rainfall, accompanied by hail. These precipitations are expected from 15:00 tomorrow, Saturday, until 18:00 Sunday. The wilayas affected are Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf.
