The last 24 hours have been marked by the return of cold weather and rain in many regions of the country. Showers accompanied by strong winds and a significant drop in temperatures have been forecasted, leaving people looking up at the sky, wondering if these conditions will persist on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
The National Office of Meteorology (ONM) has issued two special weather bulletins (BMS) for rain, indicating increased vigilance in certain regions of the country. The first alert places the wilayas of Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, Mila, and Constantine on orange alert, with rainfall amounts ranging from 20 to 40 mm. This alert has been in effect since Tuesday, March 26 at 9:00 PM and will remain active until Wednesday, March 27 at 6:00 AM.
The second ONM BMS concerns the wilayas of Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Sétif, with similar amounts of rainfall ranging from 20 to 40 mm. This alert is in effect until 1:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27.
In addition to these two alerts, Météo Algérie has issued a yellow alert for “rain” and “thunderstorm” for several other wilayas, including El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, Mascara, Ain Témouchent, Oran, M’sila, Batna, Oum El Bouaghi, Souk Ahras, El Tarf, and Guelma. The wilayas of Médéa, Tissemsilt, Blida, Algiers, Tipaza, Ain Defla, Chlef, Relizane, and Tiaret are also affected by this alert.
As for the weather forecast, the North regions of the country are expected to have cloudy skies with showers, sometimes thunderstorms, mainly in the Center-East and East. Progressive improvement is expected by late morning in the West.
In the Saharan regions, the weather forecasts from Météo Algérie announce mostly cloudy skies from the far South towards the Hoggar/Tassili. While in other Southern regions, a clear to partly cloudy sky is generally expected.
Regarding temperatures, the maximum temperatures will range between 15°C and 23°C on the coastal regions, between 16°C and 26°C in the interior regions, and between 25°C and 39°C in the Saharan regions. Furthermore, the ONM has issued a yellow alert for “snow and ice” for the wilayas of Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Sétif, Mila, Constantine, Batna, M’sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, and El Bayadh.
In the same vein, it is worth noting that two special weather bulletins (BMS) from Météo Algérie, warning of potentially dangerous weather conditions related to strong winds in several regions of the country, are still in effect.
The first BMS, level 2, announces strong winds blowing in the regions of Naama, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, Batna, El M’ghair, Ouled Djellal, Biskra, Ghardaïa, Touggourt, and El Oued. These winds, coming from the West to Northwest, will reach speeds ranging from 60 to 80 km/h, sometimes exceeding 90/100 km/h in gusts. In addition, these weather conditions can lead to frequent sandstorms and reduced visibility, as noted by the ONM, emphasizing that this alert is in effect until 9:00 AM today.
Finally, the second BMS from Météo Algérie places the wilayas of Tlemcen, Ain Témouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, and Chlef on orange alert. In these regions, winds from the West to Southwest will blow at speeds ranging between 60 and 70 km/h, with gusts exceeding 80 km/h. This alert is also in effect until 9:00 AM today.
