Mostaganem, February 28, 2024 – The wilaya police services of Mostaganem, in collaboration with the Customs Inspection, have dismantled a transnational criminal network – sought by Interpol – specialized in international vehicle smuggling.

The operation was carried out in two phases. The first phase began following a complaint from the Mostaganem Customs services for violation of customs regulations and liquidation of goods whose storage period at the port of Mostaganem had expired.

During the inspection of the containers, investigators discovered 108 dismantled motorcycles hidden in wooden crates (90 of which were stolen and sought by Interpol), as well as 4 million units of pyrotechnic products (fireworks and smoke bombs) and spare parts.

The investigation identified nine suspects, seven of whom have been arrested, while the other two are still at large.
Searches were conducted at the homes of the main suspects, where investigators seized nearly 10 million dinars in cash (1 billion centimes), gold jewelry, as well as commercial and banking documents (counterfeit and genuine) and a stamp of a fictitious company, which imported household linen and sewing machines.

The total value of the seized goods is estimated at 306 million dinars (143 million dinars for fireworks and 163 million dinars for motorcycles).

The suspects were brought before the public prosecutor near the court of Mostaganem for international vehicle trafficking, forgery and use of forged banking documents, importation of prohibited goods, and money laundering.
