NAÂMA, FEBRUARY 25, 2024 – The National Gendarmerie services in the wilaya of Naâma have dismantled a transnational criminal network specializing in organizing the illegal entry and exit of Moroccans through land borders.
The operation was carried out by elements of the Territorial Group of the Gendarmerie Nationale in the municipality of Kassdir, following the exploitation of information provided by two Moroccan individuals arrested for illegal border crossing.
An in-depth investigation revealed the modus operandi of the network. Indeed, a binational individual acted as a contact point in Algeria, receiving sums of money in Algerian dinars.
Then, the National Gendarmerie statement specifies that this same intermediary was responsible for transferring the money to an accomplice residing in Morocco through an electronic application.
The investigation, which was expanded to several wilayas, led to the arrest, in a passage center housing, of six other members of the network, all of Moroccan nationality.
Furthermore, the operation resulted in the seizure of several important elements, including a sum of money in dinars estimated at 100 million centimes, 3,440 Moroccan dirhams, 6 Moroccan identity cards, 3 Moroccan passports, 900 euros, 50 Tunisian dinars, 10 dollars, and 6 mobile phones.
The members of the criminal network will be presented before the competent courts for “smuggling of migrants within an organized transnational criminal group” and “illegal transfer of capital.”
