“The best relations with a neighbor like Morocco are essential for Spain. It is a rule of foreign policy and state policy,” said Mr. Albares on Tuesday in the Spanish Senate.
The Spanish Foreign Minister assured that “Morocco is a key partner in the fight against terrorism, in dismantling jihadist cells, and in combating irregular immigration, in addition to its importance for the Spanish economy.”
The trade exchanges between the two countries exceed 21 billion euros, with over 17,000 Spanish companies exporting their products to Morocco, he added.
Mr. Albares also highlighted the human ties between the two countries, noting that nearly one million Moroccans are residing in Spain and 17,000 Spaniards are living in Morocco.
He also mentioned the visit of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco on February 21st, as well as the High Level Meeting held last year, the first in 8 years, which resulted in the signing of the highest number of bilateral agreements between Morocco and Spain.”
