Chukwuma ‘Chuks’ Akuneto, a highly esteemed youth coach, has thrown his hat into the ring for the coaching position of the Nigerian Under-17 Boys National Team, also known as the Golden Eaglets. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) recently announced the opening of applications for the coaching roles of the Super Eagles and the Golden Eaglets, who were previously under the guidance of Nduka Ugbade.
Based in Manchester, England, Akuneto is a dedicated and driven coach with a UEFA A license. He has gained valuable experience through coaching positions in India and England and is now seeking to take on the role of managing the Golden Eaglets. Akuneto, who transitioned into coaching after a successful 15-year playing career in five different countries, has officially submitted his application to the NFF.

Having previously worked with clubs such as Oldham Athletic, Stockport County, and Radcliffe Borough in the UK, Akuneto has consistently shown hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude in supporting players in their growth and development. He aims to bring these qualities to the role of the Golden Eaglets’ coach to help the team reach their full potential.
Additionally, Akuneto is the founder of Next Steps Football Coaching, a specialized training program focused on personal improvement and fitness. The program has successfully nurtured numerous professional, semi-professional, and grassroots players of all ages. His past clients have included former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo, as well as Tom and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru of Watford and Hatayspor, respectively.
