The elements of the investigation and intervention service belonging to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police apprehended, on Friday night, a 34-year-old French national. Bingui, wanted for several months, had been on the run since July 2023 and was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by a Marseille investigating judge for drug trafficking and criminal association. Félix Bingui was also known for, among other things, murder, settling of scores between criminals, and death threats.
This police operation was praised by the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. “One of the biggest Marseille drug traffickers has been arrested in Morocco. Congratulations to the police who relentlessly pursue the fight against drug trafficking. A major blow is dealt today to narco-banditry thanks to our cooperation with the Moroccan authorities that I thank,” wrote the French official on X, formerly Twitter.
For his part, the Prosecutor of the Republic of Marseille, Nicolas Bessone, applauded the efforts deployed, affirming that “this arrest is the result of remarkable cooperation from Moroccan authorities (…) and meticulous and relentless work” by the numerous French police services involved in this investigation.
The drug trafficker was apprehended in Casablanca as part of a well-thought-out security operation aimed at identifying and locating all the places where the suspect could find refuge in several Moroccan cities, indicates a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
After his arrest, he was placed in custody and brought before the competent prosecutor in Casablanca on Saturday morning, as part of the extradition procedure.
This arrest crowns the relationship of security cooperation and information exchange between the DGSN and the French National Police at a time when Morocco and France are resuming political dialogue after an unprecedented crisis.
