During a recent visit to AFRIMA’s secretariat in Lagos, Nigeria, Cameroonian artist KO-C and Burkinabe singer Miss Tanya met with the executive producer of AFRIMA, Dada. Dada emphasized the importance of the diverse musical landscape of Africa as a platform for artists to collaborate and create exceptional works that reflect the continent’s cultural richness. He encouraged artists to utilize AFRIMA’s platform to foster connections and partnerships, contributing to the growth of the creative industry and the continent’s economy.
Dada highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in driving the growth and global recognition of African music. He expressed AFRIMA’s belief in the power of music to bring people together and transcend linguistic, cultural, and geographical barriers. Both KO-C and Miss Tanya praised AFRIMA for its transparency and its role in elevating African music globally. They applauded AFRIMA for providing a platform that allows artists to connect with a broader audience and celebrate their musical identities.
Dada emphasized that AFRIMA is not just an award institution but also a unique platform committed to addressing challenges plaguing the continent through the implementation of its core values. He highlighted the various pillars of AFRIMA, including the music award, music festival, Africa Business Summit, and music academy. Dada also addressed the lack of access to proper facilities for artists in Africa, stating that AFRIMA has established partnerships with studios to provide recording and video-making opportunities for artists.
Victoria Nkong, the president of BridgeAfric, who accompanied the artists to AFRIMA’s headquarters, emphasized the need for more collaboration among African artists, particularly between Francophone and Anglophone artists. She encouraged artists to follow Nigeria’s example in pushing Afrobeats to a global audience and stressed the importance of stakeholders taking the initiative to develop the music sector across Africa.
Overall, the visit to AFRIMA’s secretariat highlighted the importance of collaboration and the role AFRIMA plays in promoting African music globally while also addressing the challenges faced by artists on the continent.
